TENNIS NEWS:  We welcome back Head Pro Kris Barnes and welcome John Parsley.

April 2010 Means Tennis Time at Flower Valley! We are looking forward to tennis weather and opening the courts for the 2010 Tennis Season. The four Har-Tru courts will be available as early as possible in April and the two hard courts may be used before then as weather permits. We will have a tennis socials and ladder matches throughout the season. Please note the new guest fee for 2010 is $5.00.

Welcome Back Head Pro Kris Barnes and John Parsley! Head Pro Kris Barnes and John Parsley return as tennis pros for the 2010 Season. Kris runs the Junior Tennis Program and provides competitive drills and clinics for all ages. John Parsley joined us in 2009 and he will continue to run tennis clinics and private lessons for all ages. Contact Info:

Men’s Inter-Club Tennis Team
The Flower Valley inter-club tennis team is a co-ed team that competes in the Montgomery County Tennis Association (MCTA) in a spring/summer league against other clubs. Beginning in June, team matches are played on Sunday mornings, with a format of 4 singles and 3 doubles matches. Anyone interested in joining the team and playing in some exciting matches should contact: Captain Steve Reed (301) 460-2032 or STEVENR@iadb.org.

Women’s Tennis Teams
Please consider joining one or both of the FV women’s tennis teams which play on Monday and Thursday mornings beginning in late April and running through mid-June. You will love being a part of the team and playing other local clubs such as Congressional, Bethesda, Manor, Norbeck, etc. If you are a returning team player, please call to confirm your spot. New players are welcome! Junior Tennis Team
The Junior team includes children ages 10-16 who compete against other local clubs such as Aspen Hill, Norbeck, etc. The Flower Valley Junior Team continues to dominate the Montgomery County league. We are planning several social events for all members:

Mixed –Doubles Kick-Off Social (May 22nd)
Women’s Doubles tennis tournament (August)
Men’s Singles tournament (July/August)
Mixed-Doubles End of Season Social (September)

Drop-In Tennis

Women’s Tuesday Tennis
Come join the FV women for a fun round of tennis. All levels are encouraged to come up to the courts and participate. It is a great way to meet other members and practice for match play. This begins Tuesdays on June 8th from 6:00 p.m. until dark. Singles and doubles players welcome!

Doubles Night
Drop in for tennis doubles on Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. This is open to men and women and is dependent on daylight and good weather. Doubles players have priority over singles players for the har-tru courts on Thursday evenings.

Tennis Lessons/Clinics

Beginner tennis lessons will be available for all ages. Skills will be taught in a group environment at any level desired. A minimum of 4 players is required for a class. Rates will be based on number of attendees.

For more experienced players, drill sessions are offered. This is an opportunity to perfect your stroke in an eight-to-one ratio (maximum players to pro).

Custom-tailored clinics will be available for anyone interested in getting a group together to improve singles or doubles play. Clinic times will be worked out to suit everyone.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are available to Club members at reasonable rates. Head Pro Kris Barnes and John Parsley are available for private or group lessons. Please check the FVBRC website and the tennis gazebo for information and sign-up forms.

Tennis Rules and Etiquette

All players must check in at the gazebo before beginning play. The tennis guest fee is $5 per player for the 2010 season. Members are responsible for paying the guest fee. 50% of the people playing on any court must be members. Courts are available on a first come/first served basis. Play is limited to 1 hour for singles and 90 minutes for doubles when others are waiting.
